Pukekohe Light Opera Club

We have held auditions for Cabaret and are well into rehearsals. We had a huge turnout with tremendous talent. It was very regrettable that we could not cast everyone – we were close to writing extra parts to accommodate all these good people but then we would have had a six-hour show and be handing out sleeping bags in the foyer!

The word fills many of us with horror. Believe me if I could find a better way to get a cast together I would use it.

Let me talk a little about Auditions from the Directors point of view. Firstly, I WANT TO CAST THE SHOW. Which means I want you in a part. There is no ‘good’ or ‘bad’. When you come in to theatre you will see several people other than me. They are not there to judge you but to help me. I like to work up front with you so I can see how we are going to work together.  I like someone further back in the auditorium to tell me how you look and sound (This is a positive not a negative). I also like to video your audition – don’t panic – this is only to make sure I have remembered everything about you when we cast (they are wiped straight after). The Wardrobe Mistress will be in the auditorium too looking at how to costume you so you will look your best. The Stage Manger will also be there, she has a good eye and you wouldn’t believe how much I can miss that she picks up. I do my best to make you feel as ease, I will enjoy our time together.

At the AGM on Wednesday (26 April) a number of committee Members stepped down and, as Bob had completed the maximum term as president, a new president was elected. At the request of the new president, Mary Gray, a larger committee was elected
