Cabaret

We have extended the season to Saturday 18 November so if you haven’t had a chance to see Cabaret then you have time to book for the last few performances.

The show is going very well and we are playing to full or nearly full houses every performance. We are seeing outstanding performances from all our leads and the Company just seem to get better and better. For those of you who have seen the show I am sure you will agree with me that this is a very strong Company, no weak links with everyone giving heart and soul.

We have not been without our fair share of problems. Barbara, our pianist, was taken ill suddenly and with a one-hour go through of the score Claire Caldwell stepped in for two performances. She played perfectly although she did tell me that she couldn’t find the music for one piece so just made it up; her comment “I felt sure Scott would tell me when to stop”. Can you believe that anyone has the talent to do that! Well Claire certainly has which is why she is one of New Zealand’s top professional pianists and also a lovely lady who is not too famous to help an amateur club out in an hour of need. A lesson to us all. Shane Verissimo (who played keyboard for Little Shop of Horrors) sat in the pit for one of Claire’s performances and then played the following night. A very big THANK YOU to both these fine people. I am very pleased to say that Barbara is now back in the pit and Scott has delayed his nervous breakdown.
